The Start of the Season.... enter the competition mama!

Today was miss Ruthie's first ever calisthenics competition. She did VERY well and was so so very excited about the entire day. She has just told me she wants to go do some more calisthenics now, but I think she is completely exhausted!!!

Some photos as promised from the day. I wasnt on the roster for dressing today so I didnt get many, and was banished from the room as every time she saw me, Ruth would cry from all the built up emotion and excitement. But she had a fantastic time in the end and her team got an honourable mention in one item which was great :)

The whole team, that's Ruth over on the far left trying to cover her streaked makeup from crying.

Ruth in her alien suit. The hands are no longer being used (yes they were very frustrating to make too!) but because she couldn't do the correct actions in them I'm glad that she didn't wear them in the end.

All Ready for her free exercises. (Free Arm). Loves the camera now hey??? I may have shed a tear or two when she got on stage for this, her first, number. It was great to see her on stage and loving it!

Well that's it for this week. I am about to go make dinner and then collapse with a beer or 7..... Back to what I get paid for tomorrow. Nappy sewing!! I have selected some great new fabric combos and cannot wait to make them up :)

What did you get up to this weekend?

My Creative Space

Wow this week has gone super fast! I feel like the gap between Thursdays is slowly becoming shorter. Which apparently is true now by a slight shift in day length due to the recent Chilean earthquake according to NASA. But is that really the reason for my lack of ability to keep up? Probably not! Most likely, the cause of my surprise at weekly intervals is due to being pretty darn busy!

Anyway, that was completely irrelevant... haha! I have this week been making nappies and other general wares for my market this weekend in Williamstown. (details over to the side of the posting area)

Whilst awaiting an order of about 600 snaps I thought Id get stuck into my other wares, which has become quite small of late due to summer ending and me packing away all of those lovely dresses that I was selling over the warmer months. I gave a small preview of some of these pants last week, made in denim. This week I cut into the cordorouy, mmm I love cord, it is a wonderful winteriffic fabric.

They aren't complete yet, so this batch is still a work in progress, not ready for sale. I have to stitch on the faux fly and possible (not sure yet) appliqué on. Oh and my weepantz labels. But I am, I must admit, falling in love with these pants...

These, however, are my favourite, they are beautifully vintagey retroish. (Yes, Part of my creative space this week is making up verbs :-p) Anyway, they are my favourite, and if I was allowed, I possibly would wear these myself, but ahh alas, I am not a children's size 2...

In other news, the girl has started school full time this week, so that's 5 full days. Its a little sad for her mummy as I miss her a lot. I also miss our creative moments which I have been known to include in this Thursday digest. So it's just me and the boy now. I attempt to make him do creative stuff like drawing with me, but he's much more interested in rummaging through my scraps bucket and wearing the long thin pieces as scarves, hats or belts. Otherwise, all he wants to do is this...

EAT!
Yes, my son, old hollow legs here, I will say he's being creative because the Vegemite is so lovingly smeared all over his face... And just before he was painting himself with Yoghurt. Perhaps my son is creative after all, he just requires a bit of inspiration (yes, the inspiration is food....)

Okay, well I've gone off on a motherly bragging tangent and I must go attend to this boy as he is wandering around with a bottle bag as a handbag with a hackey sack inside and cant get it out...

Lost in Translation, some other Sewing from before Christmas

Ive been meaning to blog photos of this for a while and just never got around to it. So here we are...

For Christmas we had decided to go away to Bright which is in North East Victoria. We had also decided that with all of the stuff we had to fit into the car (golf clubs, guitars, kids toys etc) that the pram just wasnt going to fit. So I made the decision to make myself up a Mei Tai sling.

There are a bunch of tutorials online so I didnt use just one of them, but I did stick with the instructions for the man-tai very loosely when putting it together.

I used some white duck cloth... I know what you are thinking, white?!?! are you crazy?? but I didnt want A black one and white was the only neutral colour option left.

I also used some of some quilters cotton that I had laying around for the outside panel to make it pretty.

The sling is being modeled by my very talented Sister In Law Heather who loved getting to wear Olly to the pub and back. :-)

Olly really liked it too :-) He also really liked that iceblock. His first one ever... he was slightly confused by the cold at first, but because it was so hot he eventually figured out why we were giving it to him!!

and yummed it all up :-D

Finger Painting Fun.

Yesterday while I was doing some handsewing in the patio, I let the kids do some finger painting. This is the first time that Oliver has experienced paint on his fingers, but he loved it, got right into it and got all painty!

Here are the photos!!

the sewing I was doing? Well I hope to have that finished and blogged later today. :-)

Looking Back...

Last night I was up insanely late with the boy. Teething perhaps?? Please give me an answer magical baby and parent fairy!! Anyway, I was going through some old photos of Little Princess Ruth and thought I would share them. Yup, completely unrelated to sewing today, more about bragging to be honest.

all worth it...

Just a few minutes old. Well after she had recieved oxygen. She is so beautiful This is our first ever hug. Im pretty sure my first words to her were "hello... Im your mum". Pretty sure the nurse said something like "She knows that..." LOL!! All the wonderful emotions come back when I look at these photos because I remember how horrible the pregnancy was (I was very sick for the entire time) the very moment you witness in this photo is the moment when I think... "oh that was all worth it, because I am holding the most beautiful little girl in the whole world in my arms right now."

big bum!

This is one of my favourite photos I have of Ruth. She was about 6 days old. It was her first time in a cloth nappy. I didnt know anything about Modern Cloth or the alternatives that were available for "cloth nappying". I was so embarassed to take a baby out in such a massive nappy. I wanted to use cloth nappies so much, but at the time it was "So much cooler" to use disposables because there was no apparent alternative. So whenever I was in public I would use disposable nappies. Cloth was my secret addiction! hee hee.

I am now so glad I discovered Modern Cloth Nappies! Also the ability to stick up for my belief that cloth is a better option not only for the environment but most importantly, for my babies. I love my now very public cloth addiction and I am glad that I have the opportunity to share something better with every other mum in the world. :)

Now back to the present where I have 8 nappies ready to be given elastic, turned and topstitched waiting on my sewing table for me!!!

why is it they wont stay still when you want them to?

My Creative Space

Okay So I have decided to play along with "My Creative Space" from kootooyoo. So what's happening in my creative space this week? Hmm lots of nappy sewing ahead of the market next weekend.

A little sneaky peek there. This is one of the designs I have been working on. Its been really rewarding to be working on something different. Hopefully the market goers like my new creativeness!!

I am also going out one night on the weekend one of my friends' bands is playing in Docklands so I have decided to make a top. Here is the fabric and buttons I have bought to be my embellishments.

They are hot pink. Such a beautiful colour. I have a weakness for all things pink. I was actually considering getting rid of the buttons and making a red "under bust" belt so that I could wear my red heels. But then I got the buttons out to take the photo and thought "no way I love these buttons too much!". So, alas I will have to forgoe the red heels this time. Perhaps I will have to go buy some hot pink ones!! Who knows, I might change my mind again by the time the top is done.

Ruth has also been spending some time in HER creative space this week. She loves to make things. (Don't have any idea where she got that from!) But here is a photo of her being creative in her own space, cutting up magazines and stickytaping them onto paper (because mummy couldnt find the glue).

Okay so Im gonna stop bragging and go back to sewing. It keeps me out of trouble. HEE HEE!
